Are We Ready? FBI Director Warns of Threats to U.S. Infrastructure
On top of recently surviving the ongoing COVID outbreak, we may now be looking at real threats to our cybersecurity here in the U.S., thanks to Chinese hackers. CNN recently reported that the FBI director is warning that Chinese hackers are in prep mode to “wreak havoc” on critical U.S. infrastructure. Read the full article here.
So, what are we to do as normal citizens? How do we prepare for the possible impacts? Let’s consider the main components of our infrastructure:
Energy (oil, gas, electric)
Water (water treatment facilities)
Telecommunications (internet access, satellites/GPS/cellphones)
Food
After doing some research, here’s what I would consider as essentials to have on hand in case of an attack:
Outdoor, wood-burning grill and firewood/charcoal
Non-perishable foods (rice, canned goods, powdered milk, bottled water)
Solar-powered battery packs and/or generators
Physical maps
Cash
Flashlights/batteries
LifeStraws and/or iodine to ensure drinking water safety
Gas cans (but only if you have a safe place to store them)
Emergency medical kits
Extra prescription medications and OTCs, if possible
As I do more research on the topic, and what to do in case of an emergency, I’ll post helpful links in future blog posts. Together, we got this. There’s no reason to fear if we have a plan, and if we’re prepared. Stay safe!
